Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

pre-production:

In our preliminary we only had a short time to plan everything compared to weeks in our thriller. we stuck on one idea and based our idea of 'the godfather' , we had a Mafia thriller idea and planed it from there , it was really basic idea but we build off that. but in our thriller we was unable to get a idea for a while because we just never all loved the same idea.  the ideas we was thinking off we was either unable to do or they wast good enough. we stuck on a train station idea for some reason , I dont know why maybe because we was able to do it or that it already has a thriller aspect to it. personally I think our preliminary is better than our thriller because it was a solid idea and if we did that idea we would have a lot better thriller opening because we only had 20 mins to plan and film whereas we had about a month for our thriller.For our preliminary task we had to film a minuet story what included someone open and walking through the door with match on action, then have that character sit down and have a conversation with someone what had to include a least 2 spoken dialogue for each of them. It also had to include the 180° rule and shot reverse shot. Before thing about any of these our group had to think of an Idea to do and where we would film it. The genre was going to be Mafia and the location was going to be the chapel due to the Mafia being religious it would suit it perfectly. Next we were going to need script but it only took 5 minutes before we were ready to go and film. The script was simple enough but with the time we had it would have to do. I ended up joining the group around this stage because it was easier to have 4 groups of 4 than a random 2, this meant they had to write in a role for me but because of how the script was written it meant it was easy to add me in.

production:

As soon as we got to the chapel the first thing we sorted out was the lighting because we wanted the lighting to create an effect in our preliminary. We was able to black out the room and make it so the only light was lighting up the alter and this gave the idea for the first seen of Eryk praying. After that we wanted to film the match on action and someone walking through a door scene, we didn’t realise until editing how dark it was but we was able to sort that out later. We made sure that we included as many of the thing we needed to included early on so that we wouldn’t have to try a fit them in later. As we was running out of time we just had to film the last scene of them talking but it came to be harder than we first thought due to bloopers. But we were able to finish it on time and get the entire scene we needed done and we couldn’t wait to edit it. in our thriller we had to get everything done asap because we knew we wasn't allowed to film and if we got told to leave before we finished filming then we would have to change our idea. we got there and started the filming straight away and we filmed it in our of how it would play out. we was thinking about what shots will be good and what wont work. we used natural lighting so that wasnt a problem for us. we made sure we had multiply shot of people walking so we can edit it later and give it some more flow. for both we was able to input the 180 rule and both effectively. we felt that a shot reverse shot was pointless because we had no dialogue so we left it our of our thriller. also both we also focused on rule of thirds. 

Pro-production:

for our preliminary task we separated into 2 teams and edited it differently but because of the short amount of shots the final product ended up looking the same . whereas in our thriller we all started doing it differently because we had different ways we wanted to go with in and about 2 hours in mine looked the best so we started only focusing on my one , i let them do what they wanted to it and so they all added what there ideas of it into it , the editing was my favourite part of both , it was my only experience on final cut pro but i learned quickly and i improved. in both we was focussing on match on action and i think we was able to pull that off , both we had a shot missing but we was able to fix it and use what we had and make it work.

Initial Thriller Ideas

Our group had pitched our initial thoughts and ideas to each other and we listened to each other with great attention, and patience...

Our initial ideas varied in a few ways. Emily had the idea to create a horror like story which would include a psychopath licking the had of a girl in bed pretending it was her dog, which the psychopath had long ago killed, then viewing the dog's death in a full bloody bath, but we agreed that it fell too much into the horror genre, so we left that idea.

I then pitched my idea to the group which involved a hooded character following a teenager/young woman through a park e.g Richmond Park, then the girl would lose something and the hooded character would pretend to return the object to her, but replaces it with a fake and takes the real thing, including a long plot twist of the seemingly good guy revealing to be the bad guy, but we agreed that it was a bit too cliche. We did however decide to keep in the shot of the villains back in the train and kidnapping (The Boyfriend)

Finally Arthur pitched his idea and he came up with the idea of a girl being kidnapped off the train by a group of teenagers and then (The Boyfriend) didn't realise she was kidnapped. We also said that was a bit cliche with a girl being kidnapped.

We finally came to the compromise of combining a bit of each others ideas and of course, it wasn't as we planned, new ideas were introduced and old ones were thrown away.

Logos

These Are Our Production And Distribution Logos That I Had Created

These logos are very simple in their design. The production logo frames the typical British housing in the medieval style. The distribution logo frames one of the few famous buildings in London, The Cheesegrater. We didn't want to complicate our logos too much as we didn't want anything over the top like 'UNIVERSAL', with a large globe in the center and gold writing over the top.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?


What is the distributor's role?


A distributor is an intermediary entity between a the producer of a product and another entity in the distribution channel or supply chain, such as a retailer, a value-added reseller  or a system integrator . The distributor performs some of the same functions that a wholesaler does but generally takes a more active role. At a minimum, distributors handle payment and procurement but, unlike wholesalers, their roles can be much more complex. For example, vendors that lack the means to build out a channel program by themselves often outsource that work to distributors. Distributors also frequently take a more proactive approach in educating resellers about new products, through such activities as presales training, road shows, and demo's on behalf of vendors. Distributors may provide services around the procurement process, such as contract negotiation, marketing for resellers and SIs, and warrantees. Increasingly, distributors also host network operations centre's . Although the specific entities and order involved can vary, the supply chain or distribution channel involving a distributor is generally: vendor to distributor, distributor to reseller or SI, reseller or SI to end customer.

I would say its similar to 'The Sixth Sense'. This is because both open with a scene to create tension and it all builds up to the end of the opening war something is reviled/happens what sets up the rest of the film. They both also make you think about what's happening and they create questions. There is a few differences though, in 'The Sixth Sense' they have a lot of dialog what gives away information to the audience whereas our thriller opening has none, this was the plan for us because we wanted to give away as little as possible to create more mystery around the plot.

Would your film be likely to be produced and distributed by one of the major US studios?
I think that's our idea and what we are trying to achieve is good enough for they to produce and distribute it. I think that its a film what people would want to see because I keeps making them question , and if we are able o make the plot interesting then its could be a success. I think its would need to be changed though if it did happen because there's a lot of improvements to make . I think it wouldn't really be a independent film because I don't think it would work as one. I think its wouldn't be as good if it was one . i think it would be a film that people would watch if it was on tv , but if it was online then hey wouldn't pick it. there's a lot of films im not in the mood to watch but if its on the tv i find myself watching all of it and i think that's the type of film our would be. i think out thriller would first be in cinemas but then released on dvd and then tv and maybe online.

It think depending on what type of film it is, i think that its wouldn't have a premier if it is a independent but if its a normal film then yes it will. i think we will have a viral campaign and try to get the word out through social media because our target audience is normally always on social media and its where they find out everything. i dont think we will have a website because i dont think it is necessary ,i believe that not many people will go on it so there is no point wasting time on a website hat people might just go on to either see when the films out or the trailer , but that sort of thing can just bee on social media. i think another good idea having posters but have them on the side of websites so a lot more people will see it, and last but properly the best way to get people to watch the film is that trailer and i think have the trailer everywhere as in on youtube and in cinemas and on tv is the best way because it gives people a idea of what the film is and gets them excited. i think that it will be screened at as main cinemas as possible , mainly the ones in populated areas like central london and west-fields.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?


Equipment I used:


the first equipment and well the most important was the camera. As the director of cinematography I needed to know my way around a camera but luckily I also do A level photography  so I knew how to operate one. But I wasn't use to filming with the cameras but I was able to pick it p quite easily. therefore I learnt a lot more about using camera and now I can also used what I have learnt from this filming too help me in my photography work.

We also used a tripod, it maybe not be something what was hard to operate or to understand but it helped use a great deal. It mad filming a hundred times easer because I could then focus on the shots I was trying to get instead of trying to keep the camera in focus and not shaking around. for some films a shaking camera is great but for ours it wouldn't work and would ruin the film so the tripod helped us the that sense. but it is very hard to carry around because of the shape of it , and when we was filming we had a lot of other bags with us so it made it hard to carry them all around.

We also used Final Cut Pro on a mac to help us with editing the film. personally this was my favourite part because I love editing  and making digital stuff so for me this didn't even seem like work. when it came to editing and putting all the shots together we came across a problem , and that problem was we didn't get all the shots but luckily we was able to edit it so it didn't matter. this was my first tie proper editing something and I hope not my last because I felt I was successful at it and if I keep up at it I could be good at it in the future.

How did you attract/address your audience?


Our target audience is young adults/ teenagers so around 14-18 years old. We wanted this age rating because it is prefect for a thriller because it allows use to do a lot more fighting or scary scenes because of the high age rating and it was prefect for what we was trying to achieve, also it is a lot easier to make a film for people who are or around the same age as us because know what we want to see in a film and why we want to go and see it. Our rating will be a 15. Most thrillers are rated 12a and above because of what a thriller has to include, a lot more teenagers watch action thrillers what both of them are but due to the 12a rating of ‘the hateful eight’ it is unable to bring out as much action as it possibly could. I think a 15 rating is prefect for our genre of thriller. I think a lot of aspects of our film can bring in a audiences, and the main reason is because it relates to people. It may not completely relate to them but they can relate at parts of the film even something as small as acting the same. we wanted the film to relate to teenagers so that's why the boy and girl are the same age as our target audience and they are wearing what you expect teenagers to wear and are acting the same way too.

this is a poster we could possible use for our film , I think posters are the best way to get people to hear about the film because posters are everywhere and it only takes a look to see the title and it can get people interested and then they normally go and watch the trailer or read up about the film. Also because of our small budget we can just put theses up everywhere and people will hear about the film instead of having adverts or something, also we can get the poster across websites. I think the poster has to be good to get people interested about the film and I think the title is the main part because even if they only look for a second they will know the name of the film and that's why I put it in the middle in a big font. another way to draw in a audience I to get people talking about it on social media , for example the film 'suffragette' didn't have the biggest budget so what they did is got a lot of people talking about it on twitter and so it came a lot more popular. I think our film could do the same sort of idea and maybe even start a trend with a # and have it relate to the film.
