Arthur Polley Evaluation of Preliminary task

I had a great idea of how our preliminary was going to go, a dark room with little light, smoke looming over the heads of 2 Mafia brothers. Discussing the future of their family run business. One job, but was it done correctly? Are they busted?

However the reality was totally different, no in a school chapel we could not pull out guns, or bun a fat Cuban cigar, that was silly. But the more pressing matters occurred during production, a problem we didn't really think of in the pre production phase and that was really the case with alot of groups. The light was not for one as I wanted it to be and then in the post production phase we tried to make it lighter by editing the contrast, but this as you can see was poor.

The editing on my half was poor, but we could of made the place where we were lighter, but i felt it ruined the dark Mafia mood. Yes i should of given it a chance at least to see, but we had very little time to get the filming side done, so i see it as an okay job.

I am however very pleased with the way some scenes acted out, such as the intro scene of Eryk praying, the lighting and dark contrast was perfect, just as i imagined it was perfect.

This is what i was most happy with, i mean look at it, its perfect, a job even Quinton Tarentino would be proud of.

The lighting and exposure in this frame made this shot grainy and unprofessional which destroys the verisimilitude of the scene. And yes we could of made the actual set brighter by letting more light into the scene but it destroyed the atmosphere. And also we had little time to test and experiment with lighting.

Yet I am happy again with these shots
of the Don and his Hit man discussing business

The shot reverse shot worked well in
the sense that it created verisimilitude and flow to the dialogue in this scene, this was all accomplished by not breaking the 180' degree rule.
